Shanghai Yu-Life Toastmasters Club Meetings #445

meeting #445 @[2023-06-04 Sun]

Today is a special date, but I could not talk about its meaning too much so that I choose the special date as this meeting's Table Topics.

We have a new guest coming to this meeting - Stephanie. She also takes the role as the debate timer. Yet another great soul.

The meeting starts late with my brief introduction of the welcome note and meeting rules as the SAA. President@Joker gives his typical introduction to Toastmasters and Yu-Life club.

My Table Topics session has 9 questions, and each and everybody has a chance to choose one of them. I hear many inspiring stories about the special date in one's life. We should all remember a special date and live every day to its wildest meaning.

The second session is the live debate. I had an on-line debate experience which I did not have much to do because I didn't feel the battle field through the small screen. This time the debate is face to face. Each team are trying to use their strongest argument to convince the audience. We are the proposition team, and take the point that people should focus on one thing and make it to its best. While the other party hold the opinion that people should be versatile in pursue their skill sets.

Debate is a kind of speech that has the characteristic of both a prepared speech and an impromptu speech. On one hand, you should prepare your point in advance to make it clear and strong. On the other hand, you need listen carefully to the opponents and find logic flaws in their speech and fight back. It is very challenging but interesting.

Our timer@Yoland and debate timer@Stephanie perform very well in controlling the overall time.

Our Ah-counter@Linna and Grammarian@Carol have done well in the report by telling the audience explicitly what they have done well and what should be improved.

Our team do not win the debate. Yet this is a special date to be remembered. Not only is it an marvelous club meeting, but also for me to commemorate my peers fought for our freedom bravely in the past.

Thanks to our distinguished guests:

Stephanie
